The request belongs to a driver and device
A driver can ask the kernel firmware loader for a named payload and transfer it to the device. Required, optional and fallback requests have different outcomes. One failed optional request is not automatically the cause of a later freeze. Compare the following initialization messages and the device address before joining events.
journalctl -b -k --no-pagerA module can advertise firmware for many devices
The full modinfo firmware list can span several chips and releases. Do not install every filename merely because it appears there. This catalog shows checked examples where available and otherwise says when filenames are device-dependent. Match the actual request to the running kernel, hardware revision and documented distribution payload.
modinfo -F firmware MODULERoot filesystem and early boot are different contexts
A firmware file present after login may have been unavailable during early initialization. A later package installation does not retroactively change that boot. Use your distribution guide before rebuilding an initramfs or rebooting; preserve a bootable system generation. The Explorer does not distribute firmware binaries and does not waive their individual licenses.
